Sail the Hebrides on a High‑Latitude Expedition Yacht

Selkie is a 15‑metre, one‑off expedition yacht built for high‑latitude seas and shaped by decades of real voyaging. She carries people into the Hebrides in a way that only a boat like her can — close to the weather, the wildlife, and the raw edges of the islands. Life aboard is hands‑on and immersive: you come to sail, to learn, and to feel the sea under you. For many, these voyages become the wildest and most memorable days they ever spend in this landscape. Explore the Hebrides aboard Selkie, a bespoke expedition yacht built for high latitudes

Choose your Voyage

7‑Day Voyages

Selkie’s 7‑day voyages give you a full week immersed in the sea, the weather, and the islands. You’ll sail a high‑latitude expedition yacht through some of the most striking waters in the Hebrides, learning as you go and becoming part of the crew. These weeks are full, hands‑on, and shaped by the conditions — no two are ever the same.

• Hands‑on sailing every day
• Time ashore on remote islands
• Learning as part of the working crew
• Evenings anchored in quiet bays
• A full week immersed in the weather and the sea

10‑Day Voyages

A 10‑day voyage gives you the time and space to settle fully into life at sea. With more days under sail, we can reach further into the islands and follow the weather into places that shorter trips can’t always reach. You’ll learn, helm, handle lines, and become part of the working rhythm of a high‑latitude yacht moving through a wild island seascape.

• More time under sail and exploring
• Space to settle into the rhythm of the boat
• Opportunities to reach further into the islands
• Learning through real involvement on deck
• A deeper, slower experience of the Hebrides

Mindful Sailing & Wild Yoga Retreats

These retreats weave sailing, yoga, and time in the islands into a slower, more spacious experience. Each day brings a mix of time under sail, movement, breathwork, and quiet moments anchored in wild places. You don’t need to be experienced in yoga or sailing — just open to being present, learning, and spending time in the weather and the sea.

• Daily yoga and mindful movement
• Sailing as part of the working crew
• Time ashore on quiet islands
• Evenings anchored in sheltered bays
• A slower, more spacious rhythm at sea

Hebrides Story & Wellness Retreat

This retreat brings together steady sailing, gentle movement, and the deep story of the Hebrides. Each day offers time under sail, time ashore, and space to connect with the landscape, the weather, and the long human history of these islands. It’s a slower, more reflective way to be at sea — open to anyone who wants to move, learn, and settle into the rhythm of the boat.

Rossøya, Norway

God I love this! It’s blowing a gale out there. Winds of 50 coming out of the North West. The boat stinks of diesel fumes with the Refleks stove that had to be turned off when the gusts swung through violently, blowing smoke back down the chimney. That was one thing I...

World Ocean Day 8th June

Scotland’s year of Coast and Waters 2020 has been thoughtfully shifted to 2021. Communities and businesses around the country invested imagination and effort into creating celebratory events. To have all that love for the ocean and inland waters swept away by the...

Why I sometimes call puffins penguins!

It was sailing and mountains that first took me to the Falkland Islands but quickly the wildlife, so much a part of that land and seascape, became the deciding factor in my choice to sell up, buy a boat and sail to the south. With Ada 2 I was blessed with a boat that...

Coronavirus and Selkie

The good news is that Selkie is almost ready for her first voyage of the season. She might not be looking as smart as I had wanted but that is because the weather has been atrocious and painting the deck when there is no substantial gap between rainshowers is a known...

In awe of Scotland’s birds.

in winter I will spot a little grey sea bird, frantic rapid flaps of stout wings, keeping the small body airborne. More often, I will see them spot Selkie and duck beneath the waves, wings more suited to propel them at great speed to depths and feats only realized recently… these birds are in an elemental battle to survive and soon they will be starting to feed up and colour up. It takes a great amount of effort to achieve the glorious glowing colours of the much-loved puffin.

Season Feenee

Selkie’s sailing season is over, brought to a dramatic close by the arrival of the first proper Atlantic storm of autumn: a deep weather system whose isobars run rings around a sea area stretching from the Azores to Svalbard.  It just keeps on coming… Monday… Tuesday…...
